How to read a sewing pattern without panicking

Patterns look like blueprints because they are. Once you know four symbols, the rest is just reading.

The grainline arrow lines up parallel to the selvage. Notches match pieces together. Dots mark stopping points. Solid lines are cut lines; dashed lines are stitch lines.

Highlight your size line before you cut. Future you will be grateful.
